Delta Fire: All Evacuations Lifted

UPDATE 10:47 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2017 - The Delta Fire is 63,292 acres in size and is 97 percent contained. 807 people remain on the Delta Fire at this time.

Sunday morning the Delta/Hirz Fire Incident transferred from a local Type 3 Incident Command organization back to a Northern California Type 2 Command.

Mandatory evacuation orders for residents on East Fork Road ahead of the Delta Fire have downgraded to advisories due to Saturday night's rainfall.

Due to the rain, fire behavior has moderated, and it is not expected to grow.

The amount of smoke produced by the fire is expected to decrease due to the increased moisture.

UPDATE 12:47 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29,2018 - Delta Fire: At the recommendation of the DeltaFire managers the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department and Trinity County Office of Emergency Services have issued a mandatory evacuation notice for residents on East Fork Road, north to Ramshorn Road and east to the Trinity/Shasta line due the fire burning on the Trinity/Shasta County Line. UPDATE 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16- 2018 - Forest Service combines Hirz and Delta Fire Closure Orders

REDDING, Calif. — Shasta-Trinity National Forest officials have combined the previously issued Hirz Fire Closure Order and Delta Fire Closure Order into one new closure order that includes both fire areas. The new Hirz Delta Fire Closure Order, 14-18-19, was issued on September 15, 2018. All previously closed forest roads, trails, and facilities remain closed with the following exceptions:

     • The Pacific Crest Trail between Ash Camp and Gumboot is now open with no restrictions.

     • All campgrounds east of Interstate 5 along Gilman Road are now open.

     • Hirz Bay Boat Launch has been reopened. The McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake remains open for water traffic.

     • Access to Girard Ridge Lookout has been restored. For more information regarding facility usage and reservations, please call the McCloud Ranger Station at (530) 964-2184, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Forest areas impacted by the Hirz and Delta fires pose a significant health and safety risk. Significant suppression and repair work is being done throughout these closed areas. These areas will remain closed until further notice.

UPDATE 9: 15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 

Siskiyou County Evacuations

On Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 12 p.m., the Siskiyou County Sheriff, in coordination with Dunsmuir city officials and Delta firefighter leaders, lifted the Evacuation Warning for all Dunsmuir residents as a result of the Delta Fire. According to Sheriff Jon Lopey, “The Delta Fire is no longer a serious or imminent threat to the citizens of Dunsmuir or other Siskiyou County residents in the area at this time.”

Trinity County Evacuations

All evacuations zones and advisories for the Delta Fire have been lifted in Trinity County.

Shasta County Evacuations

On Saturday, September 15, 2018, at about 1 p.m., mandatory evacuations have been lifted and residents may return home in the following areas. Re-entry to the Dog Creek area includes the following access roads: Fenders Ferry Rd., Saylor Rd., Harr Ridge Rd., McCall Creek Rd., and Cavanaugh Canyon Rd.

Mandatory evacuations are still in effect for Gibson Rd. area to include Highland Lakes Rd., Rivera Dr., Campbell Creek Rd., Nighhawk Ln., Karwin Dr., and Bonville Springs Rd.

Mandatory evacuations are still in effect for the Sims Rd area to include Shotgun Creek Rd., Upper Shotgun #1 and #2 Rd., Mears Ridge Rd., Fat Bear Way, Sims Lookout Rd., Hazel Creek Rd., and Girard Ridge Rd.

Interstate 5

All restrictions for all north and southbound traffic are lifted. Some of the road systems off of Interstate 5 will remain closed due to suppression efforts.

NOTES: SAFETY MESSAGE – The public is reminded to stay vigilant on current fire conditions. Please continue to adhere to road closures and any evacuation warnings. A reminder to drive slowly & yield to emergency personnel in the area. There will still be smoke in respective areas as firefighters continue operations. If at any time you feel unsafe, call 911.

UPDATE 8:10 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2018 - A public meeting for the Delta & Hirz Fires will take place on September 10, 2018 at 6 pm at the Trinity Center Community (IOOF) Hall at 20 Scott Boulevard, Trinity Center. Fire officials will give an overview of current and expected fire conditions followed by a question and answer session.

UPDATE 3:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 - During the Shasta-Trinity National Forest press conference on the Delta Fire, Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko released updated evacuation information for the fire. 

The following is the most current evacuation information. 

Shasta County:

Dogcreek Road area is evacuated.

Pollard Flats Road area is evacuated. 

Vollmers exit to Sims Road is evacuated.  

(Anything north of Sims Road is not under mandatory evacuation)

Siskiyou County:

Dunsmuir is still under an evacuation warning.

Evacuation Centers:

The two evacuation centers in place are the National Guard Armory in Mount Shasta located at Everitt Memorial, Mount Shasta, and Central Valley High School located at 4066 La Mesa Avenue, Shasta Lake City. The Mount Shasta Community Center is no longer a evacuation center.

Small animal shelter

The Mount Shasta Humane Society is accepting small animals for evacuees using the evacuation shelter. They are located at 1208 North Mount Shasta Boulevard, Mount Shasta.

UPDATE 2:24 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 - New mandatory evacuations are in order for areas of Trinity County. 

The Trinity County Sheriff's Office issued a mandatory evacuation notice for residents of East Fork Road to Ramshorn Road east of the Shasta Trinity county line. 

There is an evacuation advisory from East Fork/East Side Road junction west to Highway 3 northward to Ramshorn Road. 


TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. - The Shasta-Trinity National Forest has released updated information on mandatory evacuations and advisories for the Delta Fire. Here's what we know as of 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 6. 

Shasta County:

The forest service says that there are numerous structures threatened by the Delta Fire. Mandatory evacuations are in place for residents along the Interstate 5 corridor from exit 707 at Vollmers north to exit 714 at Gibson. 

Siskiyou County:

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office has issued an evacuation warning for all residents of Dunsmuir. To clarify, this is a warning NOT a mandatory evacuation. Residents in Dunsmuir should be aware of the warning and be prepared to evacuate if the Sheriff's Office issues an evacuation order.
