CHICO, Calif. -- A seminar was held Sunday at the Women's Club in Chico discussing creative approaches in prisons to help inmates.
Local writer Claire Braz-Valentine and Anthony Porter spoke about their writing workshops at High Desert State Prison in Susanville.
Braz-Valentine and Porter shared multiple letters from incarcerated men inside the High Desert State Prison.
"I think it humanizes them and helps them recognize they're still human because they're in an environment where their humanity is devalued and ignored to some extent," Porter said.
Creative writing is just one of many programs that help prisoners move forward.
