Crash leads to DUI arrest, child endangerment charge

A man was arrested on Friday after police responded to a crash on 16th St. in Chico on Friday night.

CHICO, Calif. - A 31-year-old man was arrested for child endangerment and driving under the influence on Friday in Chico, according to the Chico Police Department.

At about 8:15 p.m. Friday, the Chico Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on East 16th St. near Laural St.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located a car with front-end damage in a yard nearby.

Officers found a large dump truck trailer that was parked on the street and was hit by the vehicle.

The driver was contacted by officers and identified as Andrew Anderson, 31.

Anderson was not injured and officers began driving under the influence investigation based on his signs of intoxication.

Anderson was arrested for DUI with a blood alcohol content of over .30%, police said.

Police added that Anderson had two children in the vehicle who both sustained minor injuries. They also found a 12-gauge shotgun in the passenger’s seat.

An investigation revealed Anderson is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a felony conviction and was out on bail with a similar charge in Lake County.

Anderson was booked into the Butte County Jail for DUI, child endangerment, felon in possession of a firearm and committing a felony while out on bail for a felony.
