Vehicle pursuit, crash closes Lincoln Boulevard in Oroville

The Butte County Sheriff's Office has released new information about a crash that closed two roads in Oroville Friday afternoon.

UPDATE 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2019 - The Butte County Sheriff's Office has released new information about a crash that closed two roads in Oroville Friday afternoon. 

Around 12:11 p.m., a deputy made a traffic stop in the area of Elgin Street and Myers Street in Oroville, after the deputy said the driver was driving erratically. 

Deputies said the driver, Gus Almburg, 57, sped off as he approached the vehicle. 

The deputy followed Almburg until he crashed his Honda Accord into a tree on Lincoln Boulevard at Grove Street. 

Almburg was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. 

Additionally, deputies found drug paraphernalia inside his vehicle. He is now facing charges of felony evading and possession of drug paraphernalia.

OROVILLE, Calif. - The area of Lincoln Boulevard and Grove Street has been closed in Oroville due to a crash.

Oroville California Highway Patrol first reported the crash around 12:45 p.m. Friday. 

Officials say the roadway is closed as crews work to remove the vehicle and a downed tree. 

A detour route is available at the scene.
