CHICO, CALIF. - Protesters took to the streets of Downtown Chico, to demonstrate against Gov. Gavin Newsom's new COVID-19 curfew.

100 plus people gathered outside the Chico City Council Chambers on Main Street to protest what they called an illegal curfew.

The protest started at 10:01 p.m., one minute after the new rule took effect.

The curfew is from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. except for leaving for a meal, to go to work or other essential services.

Action News Now spoke with Organizer Tim Lynch, he said, "The point is the governor's ruling by edict we're not going to allow that anymore. We're going to stand up and make a point."

Lynch went on to applaud many local and state law enforcement agencies that have said they will not be enforcing the curfew.

The protest was peaceful, with demonstrators carrying signs that read "Recall Newsom". Some people wore masks, but many others did not.

Lightning-caused fires will be a concern over the next few days as thunderstorms are in the forecast. We stay warm to begin next week but cool into the 70s by Wednesday.
