CHICO, Calif. - Worries of the coronavirus pandemic are prompting the popular Thursday night market to reopen at a later date.

If all goes well the new reopening date will be April 16.

The market is usually held every Thursday until the month of September.

When people attend the market there are usually more than 100 vendors, live music and food trucks.

All of those activities cause crowds of people to show up.

During these uncertain times, the Centers for Disease Control has encouraged people to be at least six feet away from someone to prevent virus exposure.

Representatives from the Downtown Chico Business Association say that when the market reopens it will take extra safety precautions.

Those precautions include spacing out booths, increasing handwashing, and limiting exposure between vendors and customers.
