CHICO, Calif.- Local high school seniors tossed up their caps and received their diplomas during a drive-thru graduation ceremony in Chico on Thursday afternoon.

Around 100 Core Butte Charter High School students participated in the ceremony, one by one students got out of their cars and walked across a stage to receive their diplomas and get their picture taken.

Proud family members watched from their cars or via the school's livestream.

Graduate Lexi Pimpo says she is thankful the school still put something on for them.

"It's a big moment and a big day and im glad we are able to celebrate somehow and walk and close out the year with something," Pimpo said.

Teachers also read a paragraph about each student while they walked across the stage.

The staff says they know this isn't a typical graduation but were happy to still be able to provide this opportunity for students.

Thursday morning Core Butte Charter School also held a drive-thru ceremony for 8th grade students who are heading to high school.

The first of two storms moved over northern California late last night and this morning, but our weather has quieted for now. More rain showers will fall Saturday, but heavier rain and snow with stronger wind arrives Sunday.
