Updated 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 28, 2021 - A more precise location for this escaped control burn is Power House Hill Road near the intersection of Lone Tree Road.

Capt. Jacob Gilliam of the CAL FIRE Butte Unit said that the heavy fuels that firefighters were watching out for consist of a log deck. Firefighters are being careful that embers from the fire do  not start the log deck on fire.

CAL FIRE has decided to cancel all residential burning for Monday, Mar. 27, 2021. Capt. Gilliam said that since gusty winds are expected to last through Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., they have not yet determined whether or not Tuesday will be a burn day for residents. For now, there is no burning on Monday.

Anyone wanting to burn on Tuesday needs to check with CAL FIRE prior to lighting the fire, in case the burning is not allowed.

Agricultural burning is not impacted by this order and IS allowed on Monday.

PALERMO, Calif. A prescribed burn in Palermo got away from those who were tending it, causing a ¼ acre fire in some annual grasslands on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters with the CAL FIRE Butte Unit were dispatched shortly before 3:00 p.m. to Power House Hill Road in Palermo south of Oroville. Power House Hill Road runs adjacent to Highway 70.

Firefighters were able to contain the escaped prescribed burn quickly, but according to Cpt. Jacob Gilliam with the CAL FIRE Butte Unit, crews will remain on-site for a few hours to keep an eye on the situation.

Gilliam said at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday that the fire was still burning some heavy fuels behind the containment lines
