BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - Butte County Public Health (BCPH) officials say COVID-19 quarantine and isolation are now mandatory.

“This requirement has been in place from the beginning of the pandemic. It's just not been an order from the health officer,” BCPH director, Danette York said.

BCPH officials are going beyond the state's guidelines that, until now, only recommended isolation and quarantine in most cases.
“We want to make sure it's all clear for all of the public, that isolation and quarantine are required,” York added.

The new mandate now gives business owners more power to enforce isolation and quarantine guidelines if employees are affected. Action News Now spoke with Diamond W. Western Wear owner, David Halimi about the mandate.

“I tend to side on the side of educating people and letting them make their own decision, I think everyone has their own risk, anytime we do something, there is cost and benefit and I think it has to do with the individual to make that choice,” Halimi said.

BCPH says you must isolate if you've been infected with COVID-19. This applies to everyone whether you're vaccinated or not.

They say you must quarantine if you were exposed to the coronavirus. The only exception is if you're fully vaccinated with no symptoms.

“It should be looked at as a positive impact. This is going to help them keep people who are infected home, people who are exposed, home, and that means less transmission within their business or school, keeping everything open,” BCPH Communications Manager, Lisa Almaguer said.

BCPH says people who are vaccinated and test positive for COVID-19 do have to isolate but don't have to comply with the quarantine mandate if they're not showing signs or symptoms.

Health officials add if you're vaccinated and exposed you should get tested within three to five days and wear a mask indoors.

The mild weather will come to an end after this weekend. But for now, we have another night of fog possible in the valley.
