CHICO, Calif. - Across California, masks are required when social distancing is not possible and many businesses are taking a firm stand requiring people to mask up when going inside businesses.
Some local businesses in Chico are requiring them and others aren’t. Community members have mixed feelings all around.
John Lucas, from Chico says, "I mean you’re doing it for other people, so just be less selfish."
With the mask mandate in full effect across the state and parts of the country, businesses in the North State have mixed reactions.
Mona Guteriez, from Chico says she is following the new rule. "I’m going to wear it, I don’t want to get my husband ill."
On the other hand, Kyle Woertinkyle, says he feels safe without one. "If stores require then I’ll wear it, if not then I won’t."
Some business owners like The Banshee owner, Will Brady choose to enforce the rule.
"Right now inside of our restaurants is 100% mask-wearing," said Brady.
His dining area is closed but is still offering take-out. He adds, "We can offer people masks if they want to come in and order."
Other business owners like David Halimi, who owns Diamond W. Western Wear, is only requiring his staff to wear them. "We are not requiring it or enforcing it, but the staff knows if someone isn’t wearing a mask to keep their distance respectfully."
