OROVILLE, Calif. -- The jury deliberating the fate of Marc Valcarenghi went home Tuesday evening. Valcarenghi is accused of murdering a woman in a Chico motel.
The prosecution and defense delivered their closing arguments Tuesday afternoon as Valcarenghi sat motionless in the courtroom.
The jurors were handed the case and began deliberating at 2:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., the jury was sent home after not reaching a verdict Tuesday afternoon.
Marc Valcarenghi's trial started three weeks ago and closing arguments were held Tuesday afternoon. The defense said Audra Houston died because she and Valcarenghi were simply "caught up in the moment."
The prosecution swiftly contradicted the defense's argument, saying due to the injuries on Houston's body, Valcarenghi's story was just not reasonable.
Audra Houston's body was found under the bed in her room at the Safari Inn, last July.
The jurors return for deliberations on Friday morning.
