REDDING, Calif. - Surging COVID-19 cases mean Shasta County Supervisors won't meet again for the rest of the month.

A special meeting for the Fountain Wind Project planned for next week, now won’t happen till Oct. 26.

District 3 Supervisor Mary Rickert said the rising COVID-19 is why the county decided to limit some services.

“It was a proactive effort on our part to set an example and be responsible,” said Supervisor Rickert. “We need to cancel meetings if they're not necessary at this point and time and to get our case numbers down.”

Those essential services based at the County Administration Building will remain open. County leaders are urging people to contact county departments over the phone before coming in-person. Some services might be available only through appointment.

County leaders urge people not fully vaccinated to wear a mask if they come to the county building.

Supervisor Patrick Jones told Action News Now postponing September meetings isn't the right move.

“By shutting these meetings down you're not allowing the open meetings to occur as they should do,” said Supervisor Jones. “We have important things to discuss that are important to the public. Not only in my district but to the whole county and we have no meetings.”

Action News Now asked Supervisor Rickert if meetings could go back to a virtual format like they did last year. But she said that decision is up to current board chair Supervisor Joe Chimenti.

Get out and enjoy this beautiful weather tonight! If you do head out and plan to stay out late, probably bring an extra later to throw on for when the sun sets as temperatures will be cooling off into the low to mid 60s for the valley by midnight and low to mid 40s by tomorrow morning.
