Neighbors who rallied to save one of Redding's oldest parks have something to smile about.

The city purchased Magnolia Park and has decided to keep it an area for recreation.

Last year, the park was in danger of being closed to make way for a new special needs facility, but a rush to save it soon started.

It was all made possible with money from the city's park fund, as well as a grant.

The city also has an additional grant to make improvements to the park that include a larger basketball court and new hoops.
