REDDING, Calif. – The Redding Fire Department is getting a new fire chief.
City Manager, Barry Tippin made the announcement at Tuesday night’s city council meeting. He announced that Jerrod Vanlandingham would serve as the new chief.
Vanlandingham has 25 years of experience with the city of Longmont in Colorado. Eight of those years were spent as chief of the fire services division. But Vanlandingham is no stranger to Northern California, he holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration and attended both Butte and Shasta Community Colleges.
"We're lucky that he applied for the position and excited to have somebody outside of the area that can bring a new perspective and I think that all the men and women in our fire department are excited to have his leadership and expertise," said Adam Mcelvain, mayor of Redding.
He is expected to start in October 2020. Chief Cullen Kreider's last day with the department was Aug. 21.
