The City of Oroville announced today they have sued the Department of Water Resources and the State of California over the Oroville Dam’s main emergency spillway collapsing and forcing more than 180,000 people to evacuate.

They released an 800 page document highlighting corruption over the past 20 years where they consistently put profits over safety.

According to the lawyers leading the charge water companies would have had to pay for repairs over the years, but instead hired a private firm to evaluate.

The lawyers also said that there was products bought for the dam over the years that were never delivered to the dam, but to a garage in Oroville and then sold.

There are allegations of intimidation, discrimination, and mismanagement.

The city lawsuit highlights 15 years of neglect that led to the collapse of the spillway.

The lawyers have a couple engineers who have come forward, and they say that they are afraid to say their names thinking they will lose their pension if they speak.

This is a developing story. Our reporter AJ Abell was at the press conference and he will have the latest coming up on Action News Now at our 4 p.m. 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts.
