CHICO, Calif. – Federal funding has come through for a major road improvement project in southeast Chico.

City councilman Randall Stone said the $22 million grant is for widening Bruce Road between Highway 32 and the Skyway.

The work will also include a bridge expansion, center medians with trees, a 12-foot bike path on the west side of the road. Along with landscaping and architectural lighting, and includes the construction of a ½ mile stretch of the roadway into the Meriam park project in order to reduce the development cost of the affordable housing project within the development, Stone announced via Facebook.

The city has already set aside $6 million for its share of the work, bringing to total project cost to $28 million, said Stone. The project is expected to go out to bid by early next spring.

"I want to expressly recognize and thank the amazing teamwork by City staff to see this project application through!" Stone shared. "I especially want to highlight Director Ottoboni’s amazing leadership on delivering this to the finish line."
