CHICO, Calif. - Effective immediately and upon the direction of the city council, the City of Chico will begin enforcement of the statewide mask order, as well as making sure businesses follow state protocols.

“Moving forward with the City Council’s directive to ensure public health remains the top priority, City staff will be pressing ahead with enforcement while finding viable ways for local businesses to maintain operations, where possible,” said Mark Orme, City of Chico City Manager.

The city said it has been educating local businesses and City staff will now begin to give notices of violation to those going against state orders.

"If compliance is not achieved, citations will be issued, all relevant state governing agencies will be notified, and, if necessary, appropriate legal action will be taken," the city said in a press release.

“Realizing that the vast majority of our residents and local businesses have proactively complied with the Governor’s orders, the City wishes to thank the community for their continued commitment to the health and safety of our citizens, as well as for their patience during these extremely difficult times,” said Orme.

The city says it has taken numerous steps to assist local businesses, like issuing two emergency orders allowing for both food and non-food businesses to move their operations outside their immediate business area.

It wasn't as hot for northern California today, but temperatures still reached seasonable summer levels and more thunderstorms sprung over our eastern counties. After one more seasonable day, hotter weather will return to our area.
