REDDING, Calif. - The Redding Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire at 3100 South Market Street, Monday about 4 p.m. The fire was about a half-acre in size.
Redding Fire Investigators say on Aug. 10, citizens had watched a man light the fire and held him until they arrived.
The unidentified suspect was arrested for arson and booked into the Shasta County Jail. Fire investigators say the man appeared to be under the influence of unknown drugs.
Firefighters were on scene putting out the fire for about an hour. Both southbound lanes of South Market Street were blocked during that time.
