MAGALIA, Calif. - Butte County Sheriff's Detectives arrested a Magalia couple for felony child abuse involving their 16-month-old son.
Investigators say Jennelle and Jeremy Laye failed to seek emergency medical treatment for 14 hours after their son received life-threatening burns, causing further harm and additional pain and suffering.
They say the child was burned by a spill on Oct. 9 while being supervised by a juvenile babysitter, and that the couple intentionally waited to take him to the hospital.
The toddler is reported to be in stable condition now and is expected to recover from his injuries.
The Layes are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, Oct. 22.
The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with additional information about this investigation to contact Detective Mary Barker or Detective Zach Price at (530) 538-7671.
