CHICO, Calif. - Mayor Andrew Coolidge said the City of Chico now has until June 25 to come up with a homeless shelter compromise.

On April 23, a Federal judge extended the eviction ban in Chico for three weeks which set the deadline to June 11.

This banned the City of Chico from evicting homeless people from camps and parks until the city comes up with a solution.

A 2019 U.S. Supreme Court did not review a petition in the Martin vs. Boise case which left in place an earlier ruling that the homeless cannot be punished for sleeping on public property without adequate alternatives.
