Chico's 37th Annual Celebration of the Life of MLK Jr. Held Sunday

For the past 37 years in Chico there have been annual celebrations of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was assassinated 51 years ago.

CHICO, Calif. - Chico held its 37th annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sunday at the city plaza.

The celebration started with a rally followed by a march through downtown.

This year's theme featured the "Poor People's Campaign," which is a national call for moral revival. It is a continuation of Dr. King's original "Poor People Campaign."

Dr. King was assassinated 51 years ago.

Cara Lamumba was one of the participants. She told Action News Now reporter Luna Nas that, "we are not as diverse as everyone think we are."

The celebration ended with a commmunity dinner at the Trinity United Methodist Church.
