CHICO, Calif. - Chico police arrested a woman who is suspected of embezzling over $250,000 from a local medical practice.
The Chico Police Department was contacted in regards to a substantial embezzlement case involving an ex-employee who worked at a local medical practice in August of 2019.
The suspected employee was identified as 47-year-old Leanne Mote (aka Leanne Hill). Over the last few months, detectives obtained and served multiple search warrants to locate evidence to prove the embezzlement.
In addition to the search warrants, detectives were able to compare credit card transactions made by Mote with information from her social media account, detectives said.
Some of this information was credit card charges to concerts, airline tickets, and trips that corresponded with updates, and photos at the locations that the suspect posted on her social media account, detectives said.
After a three month investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Mote.
On Nov. 20, Mote was arrested and booked in the City of Hemet, California.
Mote posted bail and was released, detectives said. Evidence has shown that over a 20 month period, Mote who was the office manager at this medical practice is suspected of embezzling over $250,000.
