CHICO, Calif. – The Chico Police Department’s Street Crimes D Unit completed its seventh week of operation and arrested an additional 13 people.

This week the unit seized more than an ounce and a half of methamphetamine and another illegally possessed a firearm.

In total, the unit has arrested 114 people. The Chico Police Department said the Unit have arrested a total of 101 people so far this summer. They said last week they reported they had made 98 arrests, but sent a correction stating that the number last week should have been 101.

The focus of efforts this week was in the East Avenue and Esplanade corridors. Besides these areas, the unit is still focusing on the Chico parks and other areas where the public enjoyment of the city has been affected by quality of life crimes.

Police said citizens have been telling them that their work in the city has been noticed. Some areas where obvious criminal activity and disorderly conduct were visible have been cleaned up and are now can be utilized by families.

A Street Crimes Unit spokesperson said there is still much work to do on the street of Chico and they pledged to continue their efforts to impact the street-level crime that affects the quality of life in Chico.  Examples of such crimes are robbery, burglary, gun and drug offenses, thefts of bicycles and other things.

The team is also focusing on keeping our public spaces safe.

*Last week’s total arrest number was erroneously reported to have been 98 total arrests. The actual number should have been 101.
