CHICO, Calif. - Chico police said a DUI arrest lead them to a second arrest, for heroin.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a possible DUI in the parking lot of Winco Foods around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chico police said they located several witnesses to the DUI.
71-year-old Roy Shields was inside a white Sedan, he was taken to Enloe for a preexisting medical condition. Afterward, an investigation led them to believe Shields was driving under the influence.
Authorities contacted 36-year-old Jonathan Ryan as a witness to the DUI in Chico.
Officers said when they approached Ryan who was in his truck, they saw him injecting heroin. Ryan was found to be in possession of 6 grams of heroin.
Police arrested Shields and Ryan, however, Shields was released with a notice to appear. Ryan was booked into the Butte County Jail.
