CHICO, Calif. - Mayor Randall Stone handed over an award to muralist Christian Garcia, citing his outstanding contribution to the city.

Garcia says he takes pride in giving back to his home town and sharing his work in public spaces.

"I've been painting murals in Chico for the last 13 or 14 years," said Garcia. "So for me it is a pretty special thing to finally be recognized and acknowledged by the city and my peers."

Garcia has 12 murals you will see around Chico like the one on Second and North Cedar Streets, where he is in the process of painting a tribute to Native Americans.

He has also collaborated on art projects with different community organizations and local schools.
