CONCOW, Calif. - Students at Concow School at Spring Valley received a special surprise on Monday from a martial arts instructor.

This was all conducted by Master Azad as part of the 16th annual back to school supplies drive. His business purchased and collected hundreds of school supplies and backpacks for children of all ages this year.

Many people in the community donated toward this drive which helps disadvantaged children in the community, according to Azad.

At least 65 backpacks were handed out, inside the backpacks were:

  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Rulers
  • Pencil boxes
  • Mousepads
  • Pens
  • Highlighters

Students Action News Now spoke with told us what they thought about their new backpacks.

"They are really really cool and thank you for everyone," said Beau S., a student who received a free backpack.

Some students also received free school supplies at their homes. Master Azad as well as staff from Concow School at Spring Valley hand-delivered some of those school supplies depending on where the students lived.

On Tuesday, some students at Chico Unified School District also received some free school supplies.

The recent active, wet weather pattern is taking a break over northern California as a ridge of high pressure moves overhead. Our short term weather will remain quiet, but more chances of rain are coming soon.
