UPDATE 11:24 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2019 - Officers located a rental car leased to Manning bearing a suicide note on Oct. 6, 2016.

While searching for Manning, authorities observed what appeared to be sophisticated counter-surveillance measures, leading them to believe Manning had faked his own death.

Manning's body was never found.

The search for Manning extended through Chico, Yuba City, Sacramento, San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland and Alameda.

Agents from the Marshal’s Service continued to develop leads regarding Manning's location.

Investigators believed that on multiple occasions they had narrowly missed apprehending Manning.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies in Key West, Florida, responded to a burglary alarm at a business on the Stock Island Marina on May 3rd, 2019.

Deputies located a man living in an unlocked connex storage trailer adjacent to the property. The man identified himself as William Wallace Littlejohn, utilizing a Passport and US Navy ID Card.

Littlejohn's identifying documents were determined to be fraudulent, and he was arrested.

While in the Monroe County Jail, the suspect underwent fingerprint analysis and was positively identified as Michael Manning.

STOCK ISLAND, Fla. - A Chico man, who was wanted by California authorities since 2016 for possession of hundreds of child pornography images, was arrested on Friday in the Stock Island, FL.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Michael Patrick Manning, 58, will be returned to California to face charges. He is currently in jail under no bail.

Chico police charged Manning in 2016 with sexually soliciting a minor under the age of 14, engaging in sexual acts with a minor, and possession of 600 images of child pornography.

Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies responded to 6811 Shrimp Road around 1:30 a.m. on May 5, regarding an alarm.

A man was found in an unlocked trailer on the side of the property who identified themselves as William Wallace Littlejohn. The man said he didn't have an ID, and deputies did not find any record of that name provided.

After finding various items with different identifications on them in the trailer, sheriff's deputies booked him into jail under the name John Doe.

Soon after, the sheriff's office identified William Wallace Littlejohn as Manning.

According to California authorities, Manning never showed up to his court hearing regarding the previous charges. His vehicle was also found parked on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, suggesting he may have wanted authorities to believe he had taken his own life.

Two nationwide be-on-the-lookout alerts for Manning were issued by federal authorities after, one regarding the warrants and another as a missing person.

Manning is charged in Florida with giving law enforcement a false name and identification, but more charges may be pending.

The Butte County District Attorney's Office said that Manning is pending sentencing for multiple counts and one open count for failing to appear.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
