Chico, Calif. - A Chico man was sentenced in Butte County Superior Court to six months in jail, for causing a deadly crash on Highway 99 just south of Hamilton Nord Cana Highway.
District Attorney Mike Ramsey said 21-year-old Jackson Bassow had drugs in his system and little sleep when he slammed head-on last march into a car driven by Victoria Nystrom.
Nystrom, the mother of three children, died in the crash.
Despite the current COVID-19 crisis, nine family members and friends spoke at the sentencing hearing Tuesday.
Bassow was sentenced after entering a No Contest plea to one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
