CHICO, Calif. – Fire crews were quick on scene Monday morning when woodchips being hauled by a semi-truck caught fire in north Chico.

The CHP said the driver was heading north on Highway 99 when he noticed the smoke and pulled over at Eaton Road.

The driver was escorted by Chico Fire to an area that had just burned over the weekend, where the smoldering chips could be spread out and safely extinguished.

No injuries were reported.
