CHICO, Calif. - Chico community members came together on Saturday, Aug. 2 to fix air conditioner issues for Chico's shelter animals.

About a dozen people from Correlare, DK Web Design and Sons of Italy built fan conversations for the Chico shelter animals.

The air conditioning units use ice water that runs through copper tubing in front of the fans.

"I did a walkthrough and realized air conditioning wasn't going to work," Gary Smith, owner of Correlare said. "Swamp coolers don't work past 90 degrees anyway, so we found a solution to build these new AC conversion kits on the fans that were already in existence here."

The non-profit, Friend of the Chico Animal Shelter, paid about $500 for the equipment needed.

Dense fog has developed across parts of northern California Monday morning and the potential for light showers will return today. We'll dry out and warm up on Tuesday, but more cool and wet weather is expected mid week. A more substantial wet system is currently projected to move into our region this weekend.
