CHICO, Calif. – A new local business is hoping to help with the demand on face masks during the coronavirus pandemic.
Each mask has three non-woven layers, a nose clip, and ear loops. Salus Supply is based in Chico and said it can produce up to 100,000 masks a day. The company said it’s already disturbing the non-medical, source control masks to local businesses and other organizations.
The president of Salus Supply, Tovey Giezentanner said he opened up because he noticed the demand and said he plans to stay even if the demand decreases.
“I became more and more convinced that there's a need for a local supply chain of masks,” Tovey Giezentanner said. “We have very little manufacturing of masks and very little material for these masks and so you have to get everything from either Taiwan, India, China or different places, because we just don't have it here.”
According to Salus Supply, the face masks are authorized by the FDA under an “emergency use authorization” for use to control the substances coming out of one’s mouth or nose or coming in. It can be used by the public and health care professionals.
The product is authorized only during these emergency circumstances, however, it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Salus Supply said its automated machine will arrive next week and they will be able to manufacture even more of these masks in the future.
