CHICO, Calif. – Chico Unified School District said it received confirmation on Monday from the Butte County Public Health Department that a student tested positive for COVID-19.
Action News Now confirmed the positive case is in a student at Chico High School. The school said the student did not attend school on Monday or last Friday.
"The school staff said it identified and called the families of students that were within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes," said CUSD in a news release. "These students have been placed in a precautionary quarantine in accordance to Butte County Public Health guidance. Students in the same class were also notified."
Chico Unified School District wants to remind parents to be vigilant regarding COVID-19 symptoms.
"While we understand families will have questions regarding the individual who tested positive for COVID-19, we are prohibited by law from sharing that information," said CUSD.
"We continue to be grateful for the strong collaboration between our school site administration, nurses and the Public Health Department for a quick response. Chico Unified School District is dedicated to following state and county public health guidelines, including facial coverings and social distancing in the classroom."
