CHICO, Calif. – Chico State President Gayle Hutchinson announced that the university will hold a virtual Commencement for the Class of 2020 on May 15, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Hutchinson said the ceremony will include speeches, celebrations, and the reading of graduates’ names. Graduates will be able to customize a slide with a photo and message to go along with their name reading.
Families and friends near and far will be able to join in on the ceremony by viewing from home.
“We know a virtual experience is not the same and many will be disappointed. We hope this special recognition ceremony will allow grads and their families to celebrate this momentous occasion, even from afar,” Hutchinson said.
However, graduates who want to experience Commencement in-person are invited to join the Class of 2021 for ceremonies next May.
