CHICO, Calif. -- The coronavirus pandemic isn't stopping Chico State's men's basketball team from winning the offseason.

When sports returns, Chico State will be welcoming California Junior College Player of the Year Michael Hayes.

This signing caps off the fifth and final recruit in this year’s class for the team. Hayes is 6’4 guard coming out of Las Positas College in Livermore, Calif.

Action News Now spoke to Head Coach Greg Clink about this signing.

The wildcats are signing Hayes despite not having him visit the campus because of coronavirus restrictions.

Clink says it took a lot of Zoom and Skype calls to get this two-time all-state selection to sign.

“We're really excited about him," shared Clink. "He's a division one type of athlete and player. He's really versatile and aggressive and can really score and rebound. He does all the things that will fit into how we play."

Hayes is going to a Chico State men's program coming off a stellar 23-7 season.

The season was cut short because of the coronavirus back in March.

They arrived in La Jolla for the NCAA Division Two Tournament, but had to circle back upon arrival.

Get out and enjoy this beautiful weather tonight! If you do head out and plan to stay out late, probably bring an extra later to throw on for when the sun sets as temperatures will be cooling off into the low to mid 60s for the valley by midnight and low to mid 40s by tomorrow morning.
