Chico, Calif.—Chico State proudly unveiled a brand new addition to its campus Thursday afternoon.
The school unveiled a bronze Wildcat statue on Second and Chesnut Streets near the Bell Memorial Union.
The Wildcat has been the university’s mascot since 1924.
Thursday’s event was a part of a multi-phase process that began in 2008, when a student group asked the university to install a Wildcat statue.
The statue itself was designed by a Washington based artist Matthew Gray Parker.
The Associated Students, Chico State Alumni Association, and Wildcat Athletics gifted the statue to the university, which cost 100 thousand dollars.
