CHICO, Calif. - Have you sent out any Christmas cards yet? This year you can send virtual holiday musical greetings from the talented students and professors from California State University, Chico.

"Glorious Sounds of the Season" is the annual holiday event performed at Laxson Auditorium each December. It always features students, professors, and the Chico State Music Department's honor bands and ensembles.

This year, due to the pandemic, the performances are all virtual and have been produced as video holiday and Christmas cards to be shared by the campus community in Chico and beyond.

You may see or hear some of these musical performances on the air at Action News Now, or you can watch them on Youtube. We have provided links to all six pieces in this article.

The students suggest you play them as soundtracks for your holiday gatherings or send links to your family and friends.

Music industry students worked with Executive Producer and Professor Paul Young to produce the content for the holiday videos. They feature musicians and ensembles now and prior to the pandemic, and show photographs of the Chico area by Chico State photographer Jason Halley, and North State photographer Paula Schultz. The use of some special editing effects makes all of the Chico photos appear to be taken on a snowy day, which has been a rare holiday treat for those who live in the North Valley.

A letter about the musical holiday cards says the following:

Dear Chico,

This is our gift to you. These videos were made by STUDENTS, in the spirit of giving, and giving something back... You have made our concerts, as well as your own stages, cafes, plazas, family/community events, and more always feel welcome to us.

You are an inextricable part of what makes us feel like… “us." So we wanted to simply sing, play and share this music for YOU - our community of Chico. NO strings attached. This playlist can be shared and played at your holiday parties, for your friends, around your firesides, and on your screens…everywhere.

Seasons Greetings from the music majors of California State University, Chico.

(We love you, Chico!)

The first of two storms moved over northern California late last night and this morning, but our weather has quieted for now. More rain showers will fall Saturday, but heavier rain and snow with stronger wind arrives Sunday.
