CHICO, Calif. - There were freezing temperatures across the North State Tuesday morning but that didn't stop people from lacing up their running shoes for a New Year's Day run.
More than 100 runners took part in a 5K early on Tuesday morning in Bidwell Park.
The race started at 9 a.m. and was hosted by the Chico Running Club. They said that they saw a significant increase in participation this year.
Action News Now spoke with many of the race-goers who came from all around Butte County and beyond to participate, using it as a welcome escape from the reality of the Camp Fire.
