CHICO, Calif. -- Chico police are searching for the man they say robbed a business at gunpoint Friday afternoon.

Chico police said a man walked into the Check 'n Go on West East Avenue, armed with a handgun and demanded money.

The employee gave the robber cash, but police wouldn't say how much.

Police said the man took off on a bicycle.

Action News Now spoke with a man who shops in this area, he told us he thinks crime has increased in Chico.

"It's picked up a lot since the Camp Fire has happened and all. I've seen a lot of stuff happening between my work and this way so I'm getting sort of more worried about my kids more than anybody," said Andrew Evans, a shopper in the area.

Police describe the suspect as a white male, approximately 5'9", wearing black clothing, a black baseball cap and a bandana over his face.

Chico police said there is no indication at this point the armed robbery is related to the other armed robberies that happened earlier this year.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Chico police.

Stronger winds and low humidity over dry fuels will result in very high fire danger across northern California Wednesday and Thursday. We'll be very hot Wednesday, but a welcome drop in high temperatures is ahead for Thursday. Smoke will continue to bring big impacts to our air quality over the next several days, and temperatures will heat back up from Friday into Saturday.
