CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police patrols are on the rise the next few days for what police say will be a very busy Halloween weekend.

"It's kind of just the same, just more parties going on and a lot of out of towners," said student Gary Winthorpe. "It can get kind of sketchy at some parties too, so you have to know where you're going."

Chico Police Commander Mike Williams is working in the heightened patrol this weekend.

"We get a lot of people from out of town to really come up here and be irresponsible and commit crimes," said Commander Williams.

The department has 35 officers staffed for what's expected to be a very busy weekend.

"If people are acting irresponsibly, doing things that are going to get them into trouble, yeah, we're going to take a pretty hard stance," said Commander Williams.

South campus, from Main to Walnut Streets, is one of two areas officers will focus on during the weekend.

"This just kind of seems to be the congregating area where students like to party and hang out and do their drinking so this is why we've designated it as one of our patrol spots," said Commander Williams.

The west side, on West Fourth and Ash, is another area Chico Police will be patrolling for reasons being of the history of the area of parties and crimes.

"If you're drunk driving we're going to take you to jail if you're public intoxication if you're causing a scene, we're going to take you to jail," said Commander Williams.

"It's not going to stop like there's still probably going to be something, I'm not even going to be surprised," said student Dominic Ramirez.

"Hopefully people are aware of it and know there's going to be more police out and be cautious," said Winthorpe.

Chico State Police plan to have more patrols this weekend as well. Chico police will gather all their crime numbers from the Halloween weekend on Sunday.

Gusty winds and very dry conditions will drive high fire danger across northern California on Thursday. We'll also end up much cooler on Thursday afternoon. Lighter winds, hotter temperatures, and more widespread impacts to air quality are ahead for Friday and Saturday.
