CHICO, Calif. – Chico Police said a man driving under the influence collided with a fully marked Chico Police patrol vehicle.

Officials say this all happened on Friday, March 27 at approximately 7 p.m., a broadside vehicle collision occurred on Main Street at E. 8th Street in Chico. The driver of a maroon BMW sedan collided with the passenger side of a fully-marked Chico P.D. patrol vehicle.

Police say both the driver of the BMW and the officer suffered complaints of pain only as a result of the collision. The BMW driver, identified as 28-year-old Anthony Squitieri from Chico, displayed symptoms of being under the influence of drugs at the collision scene.

According to officials, Squitieri was transported to Enloe Medical Center for evaluation. Once he was medically cleared, he was arrested for DUI after an investigation was conducted by the Chico Police Department.

The California Highway Patrol assisted in the collision investigation. Preliminary findings as a result of the investigation show that Squitieri likely ran the red light while westbound on E. 8th Street at Main Street, striking the Chico Police vehicle as it traveled northbound on Main Street.

The Police Officer suffered minor injuries. Squitieri was booked in the Butte County Jail for the violation of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.
