Chico Police officer gets bitten while attempting to arrest a man

Chico Police arrested a man Friday night after a report that he had assaulted a woman. While on the scene the man became combative and bit an officer causing minor injuries.

CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police arrested a man Friday night after a report that he had assaulted a woman. 

On Friday, March 6 just before 7 p.m., Chico Police Officers say they responded to a report of a subject who assaulted a female while leaving a business in the area of the 2000 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Responding officers located a subject in the area that matched the reported description.

Officers say they contacted Chico resident Stephen Vest. Vest was exhibiting symptoms of drug intoxication. When officers attempted to detain Vest, he became combative and was taken to the ground.

Police say Vest violently resisted attempts to detain him. Vest bit one officer in the leg, causing minor injury. A second officer also sustained minor injuries during the incident. Vest was arrested and transported to the Butte County Jail on the following charges; Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting with Force and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
