(Update 7:33 p.m. Jan. 8, 2021) - A drug deal was behind the murder in Chico Tuesday night.
District Attorney Mike Ramsey said the victim, Kevin Murrillo, was going to sell cocaine to one of the suspects, Jerome Tillman.

Ramsey says both Murrillo and Tillman fired their guns, however, it's unclear who fired first.
Ramsey also said, "Tillman intended and did rip off the victim for drugs."
The shooting happened on 3rd Street and Walnut Avenue. A witness at the scene saw the suspects drive off and gave chase while calling Chico Police. Chico Police were able to zero in on the suspects' location and make an arrest blocks away.
Tillman was arrested for murder and armed robbery. The second suspect, Max Escobar, was also arrested on murder charges. Both were arraigned in Butte County Superior Court on Friday.
They will be back in court next Wednesday, Jan. 13 for further arraignment and entry of plea.

(Update 8:11 a.m. Jan. 8, 2021) - Police have identified the victim killed in a Tuesday night shooting in West Chico.
Detectives said 24-year-old Kevin Murillo was killed in a shooting at West Third and Walnut Streets.
This investigation remains ongoing. Chico Police said in a news release, they will release new information when it is appropriate.

(Update 10:25 a.m. Jan. 7, 2021) - Two men are now in custody in the Butte County Jail following a shooting that left one Chico man dead Tuesday night.
20-year-old Max Escobar, and 21-year-old Diontanae Tillman, face homicide charges after the shooting in West Chico that took place at West Third and Walnut Streets.
Tillman is suspected of murder and robbery with a firearm, according to the Chico Police Crime Portal. Tillman's bail is $1.075 million. Escobar is suspected of being an accessory to the homicide. His bail is $1 million.

Chico Police are investigating two separate incidents in west Chico. Police say they responded to a hit-and-run collision near Walnut and 3rd Streets around 6:45 Tuesday night.
When officers arrived on the scene they found a man with a gunshot wound inside a car. First responders attempted life-saving efforts but the victim died at the scene.
Minutes later officers contacted and detained two suspects near W. Sacramento and Nord Avenues. Investigators are working to determine if the suspects were involved in the shooting.
