CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Wednesday night near Upper Park's Horseshoe Lake.

Action News Now spoke with a witness, Dave White, who said the victim came running up to the Chico Community Observatory - asking to use his phone.

Dave White, a witness of the incident, shared a photo with Action News Now showing the scene where a Chico man was robbed on June 24.

“He was held up at knifepoint,” White told Action News Now.

It happened just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, a Hispanic man was reported to have walked up to the victim's vehicle with a knife and demand they hand over their property.

White said the victim told him the mugging happened at the cross road right before the observatory at Horseshoe Lake. “He came here running to the first available building to use my phone,” White said. “His phone was just stolen, of course, that’s just a real tragic tale of what Chico is turning into.”

Once the victim handed over their property, the suspect then left the area in a black sedan, according to the police. The get-away car was also occupied by other adults and kids.

White told Action News Now that when the victim showed up asking to use his phone, he seemed rather calm for what he had just experienced.

Officers were unable to find the black four-door sedan or the suspect himself and have not said what he got away with.

The police department is asking if you have any information regarding the investigation to call them at 897-4911.
