CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police said they have a car thief in custody Monday morning after conducting a high-risk traffic stop on Highway 99.
Chico Police say an officer ran the plate number of a Toyota Avalon while heading southbound on the highway. The officer called for back up when the registration status came back stolen.
The driver, 40-year-old Lena Sullivan, cooperated with the high-risk traffic stop, pulling off into a closed business without incident.
Chico Police say a loaded firearm, belonging to the vehicle owner, was found in the driverside panel. The owner, an elder person living in Oroville, says they were unaware the firearm had been taken as well.
The victim says Sullivan was originally helping her pack up to move closer to the family after she recently lost her husband.
Sullivan has been booked into the Butte County Jail for auto theft, theft of personal property, and possession of methamphetamine, according to police.
Police reports show Sullivan had three outdating warrants in Nevada County and Sacramento County.
