CHICO, Calif. - The 711 store on Forest Ave in Chico was the scene of a robbery, fight and assault with a deadly weapon on Wednesday night.

According to Chico Police around 9 p.m. on Wednesday night 21-year-old Angela Mariah Noble-Cortes and 18-year-old Edwin Mendez entered the store. Noble-Cortes bought gas while Mendez stood near the register looking at a display rack containing key chains.

Employees believed that Mendez was shoplifting and confronted him from behind the counter. An argument then broke out between the employees and the two customers. Noble-Cortes demanded her money back from the employees. When the drawer was opened, she reached across and pulled out two one hundred dollar bills.

The employees then jumped over the counter and stood in front of the door, not allowing the two to leave. As the two argued with the employees Noble-Cortes punched one of them in the face. A fight then ensued and Noble-Cortes stabbed one employee in the leg with an object similar in shape to a dagger.

Noble-Cortes and Mendez got out of the 711 and into their car, they attempted to flee the store but just as they were pulling out of the parking lot, officers arriving at the scene were able to stop them. When officers detained the two, Mendez lied about his name but was eventually identified by police.

The car was searched and officers found the stolen cash, a sawed-off shotgun, an AR-15 rifle and multiple packages of honey oil. Noble-Cortes was arrested for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and DUI. Mendez was arrested for robbery, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, and providing false names to the police.

It was a bright and breezy Friday for northern California, however the wind has been much stronger over Modoc County where a High Wind Warning is in effect through this evening. Stronger wind and cooler air will define our weather Saturday.
