CHICO, Calif.—According to a Chico Police press release, on Monday May 21st around 8 p.m. Chico Police dispatch received a call of a road rage incident involving a local cab driver and a man driving a gold Nissan Titan in the area of East Avenue and Esplanade.
A short time later Adam Parsons arrived at the AM/PM at East Avenue and Esplanade driving a gold Nissan Titan.
Parsons threatened the two clerks and one customer with a hammer/hatchet demanding money.
Parsons then went to the 1200 block of Dale Way and forced himself into a home and threatened the resident with a hammer/hatchet.
Both the resident of the home and Parsons left the home.
Parsons then tried to back over the resident with his Nissan pickup.
Parsons crashed his truck into a tree before driving away.
Parsons then drove to Marjorie Avenue and Manzanita where he parked his Nissan near a tow truck.
The tow truck driver was on the side of the road on a service call changing a tire.
Parsons then stole the tow truck and fled west on E. Lassen Avenue as another police officer joined the chase.
Parsons then crashed into a car on E. Lassen Avenue near Esplanade causing moderate injuries to the occupants.
Parsons continued driving west on W. Lassen Avenue when he stopped the tow truck on W. Lassen Avenue.
The pursuing officers stopped behind the tow truck.
Parsons then backed into one of the police cars pushing it back.
One of the other officers pulled their car in front of the tow truck to try and stop Parsons.
Parsons then drove the tow truck into the officer’s car pushing it several feet.
The officer in the rear of the tow truck got out and fired shots into the cab of the tow truck.
Parsons was not struck by the gun fire.
Parsons drove away from the two patrol cars that were badly damaged.
Other officers in the pursuit chased Parsons down to the dead end of Holly Avenue south of W. 11th Avenue.
Parsons assaulted one of the officers and fled on foot.
Chico Police Officers and Butte County Sheriff’s Deputies found Parsons in a home of an 88 year old woman on the 500 block of W. 11th Avenue.
Officers rescued the 88 year old woman after a brief struggle with Parsons.
A police K-9 and taser were used to take Parsons into custody.
Adam Parsons was arrested for the following crimes:
Threaten Crime with intent to terrorize (2 counts)
Residential burglary (2 counts)
Assault with a deadly weapon (3 counts)
Evading a Police Officer with disregard for safety
Hit and run with injury
Assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer (2 counts)
Resisting a police officer
Battery on a police officer
The investigation is complex and on-going.
The Chico Police Department is asking for any witnesses or possible victims to call the Chico Police Detective Bureau at 897-5820.
CHICO, Calif.--Chico Police are currently responding to a crime spree.
We believe this started around 8 pm and involved several crime scenes including a hit and run.
Chico Police have not confirmed any information to us at this time but Action News Now has spoken to several witnesses.
A clerk at the AM/PM gas station on the corner of East Avenue and the Esplanade told Action News Now the suspect stopped and
demanded for a gas pump to be opened around 8:30 PM.
Just down the road, several people were rushed to the hospital following a crash on the corner of the Esplanade and West Lassen
This happened right in front of the restaurant, The Rice Bowl, where several people came out to see what was going on.
Our Telemundo anchor Daniela Contreras said she was driving down Lassen when a tow-truck driver came speeding next to her on the bike lane.
A different witness said they saw that same tow truck rear-end a car off of the Esplanade and Lassen Avenue.
Witnesses said a family was inside the vehicle at that time and were rushed to the hospital.
The second scene was at West 11th and Holly Avenue but Chico Police have confirmed that the area is safe.
