CHICO, Calif. – Congratulations and welcome are in order to several new members of the Chico Police Department.
Three new recruits took the oath to serve and protect, as they begin their careers as police officers.

Police Chief Michael O’Brien says the new additions bring the total number of officers on staff to 99. That number is still slightly lower than the allocated budget, of 105 officers.

Family, friend and colleagues gathered for the swearing in and pinning ceremony.

Chief O’Brien reminded the new recruits of the responsibilities that come with taking the oath and wearing the badge.
He told the newest members of the team that ‘trust’ comes with their new role. “That trust comes from me, it comes from your department, it comes from your city and ultimately it comes from your community,” said Chief O’Brien.

The three new officers recently graduated the police academy and now enter the field training program.
