CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police Department gathered Monday to honor a fallen hero who died on duty in 1938.
Officer Carleton Bruce died on Feb. 22, 1938, when he responded to a disturbance call at a local restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant, an armed man turned, fired and hit Bruce in the stomach.

The Honor Guard attended the memorial ceremony for Officer Carleton Bruce on Monday.
Bruce was transported to Enloe Hospital where he was attended by multiple doctors, including Dr. Enole. He was pronounced dead 30 minutes after being shot.
The Chico Police Department Honor Guard, Command Staff, department personnel and members of Bruce’s extended family attended the gathering to pay their tribute to Officer Bruce.
The Chico Police Department said they will never forget Officer Bruce and his devotion to the police department and to the Chico community.
