CHICO, Calif. - Two were arrested in Chico Monday morning suspected of trying to steal an RV.

The RV was parked in the lot at Les Schwab Tires on Notre Dame Boulevard.

The owner called in to report two men underneath the RV, possibly trying to hotwire the vehicle.

When police arrived just before 8 a.m., the suspects were still at the scene.

"One of the individuals inside tried to tamper with the ignition, get it running and the employee has had the vehicle parked here for several months since the Camp Fire," said Detective Mark Bass. "Some friends of his were using it, that got evacuated out of Paradise."

Both men were arrested for attempted vehicle theft and were booked into Butte County Jail. The department has not yet released the names of the suspects.
