CHICO, Calif.- The Chico Mall is set to reopen on Wednesday for the first time in almost two months.

Reporter Kristian Lopez spoke with Senior Mall Manager, Natasha Shelton who says they got the green light to reopen because of the low number of reported cases in Butte County.

She says they are taking all the necessary precautions. The mall will become the second mall in the state to reopen during the pandemic following Yuba-Sutter Mall's reopening last week.

However, not all of the stores will be open just yet. The hair and nail salons inside the mall will be closed until further notice.

People in Chico have mixed reactions when it comes to the mall being back open.

"I think it's too soon, I don't think we are ready because many people aren't following social distancing and not wearing masks, there are those of us who are in the more susceptible population," said Chico resident Lenore Caputo.

Jason Madewell from Chico says, "There's always a risk to something happening, it was that way before the pandemic and it'll be that way after, life needs to go on."

Employees will be monitoring the entrances of each store to control the flow of traffic, only a few people will be allowed inside the stores at a time.

There will be new restrictions depending on each store's policy.

Face masks will be recommended but not required. There will also be hand-sanitizing stations at every entrance.

The mall will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday's from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

H&M is expected to open this Fall, and HomeGoods is expected to open in Spring of 2021.
